'52 Jaguar XK 120 four seater convertible by Abbott – one of one ever built – full alloy body

We are pleased to present to you this unique coachbuilt Jaguar. Allthough Jaguar was building not only a roadster (ots), convertible (DHC) and coupé (FHC), no fourseater XK’s were leaving the factory at that time (nor have they been ever since).
Mr. David Stuart Mitchell, a wealthy business man from new Zealand, loved the XK’s but needed a more practical car to drive around with. So in 1951 he ordered a rolling chassis with Jaguar and commissioned the famous Surrey coachbuilder Abbott to create a stunning, handbeaten alloy body for it.
Abbott went great lengths to make sure the extra length needed for the extra row of seats didn’t ruin the luscious lines of the excisting beautiful XK’s. No expenses were spared to make this one-of-a-kind car of the highest quality.
After having driven his pride and joy for a couple of years, mr. Mitchell sold his car to Mr. Harold Stone, also a resident of New Zealand. All of the owners of this coachbuilt car are known and officially registered. In 1982, the Chamberlain family trust purchased the car with the intent of restoring it to its former glory. As these things go, the car was parked in a barn before starting the restoration, which never started.

In may 2002, with 105.000miles on the odometer, the well-known restoration company Upper Classics found and bought the car. They embarked upon a painstakingly precise restoration, which took no less than 5000 hours to finish. The result is a car that finds itself in an absolutely as-new condition, perfect all-around.

The car has since then been featured in numerous magazines, TV-shows and concours’. It even won the prize for “best restored car” at the motor show in Essen, Germany.

This car is fully matching, engine, gearbox bodycolor and interior are exactly as it left the factory and coachbuilder.
All of the owners are registered, so it has a complete history from day one. It even retains its original registration document of 1952!
The 5000hr. Restoration has been captured in about 1000 pictures and shows how every detail of the car has been brought back to perfection.
The car also comes with a big box filled with old documents, registration forms, magazines, video’s and pictures, probably about 5kg worth of data!
